CHLOE’S STORY

“The first spark for the idea of a senior dog sanctuary came from reading the book Dogtripping by David Rosenfelt. After I read his book I knew I wanted to help the old, more challenging pups, I just didn’t know how or when. Years later, the true inspiration for Little Oldies came when my daughter and I met Chloe at a shelter where I volunteered and immediately fell in love with her. Chloe was nine years old and we were told that her heart was failing and she only had six months to live. We decided that we would give her the best six months of her life! We took her to an animal cardiologist where we learned that although her heart was severely damaged, it was not failing and with medication she could live another two years. I literally burst into tears of joy! Chloe was the sweetest pup and she already had us wrapped around her little paw after only a few weeks. Twice a day I would give her a heap of medications and she just sat patiently and wagged her tail with delight, always ready for her post-medication treat. The longer we had her, the safer she felt, and the more she could be herself. It was amazing to see her little personality come out! She was so loving that she managed to change people’s minds about Chihuahuas.

After three and a half years of being blessed with Chloe, she passed. Although it was very difficult to say goodbye, I knew that we had given her an incredible three and half years. Because she was happy and loved, she outlived all of her prognoses. I knew this was my calling. I knew I wanted to give other challenging senior pups the same opportunity.

Every animal deserves to have a respectable, safe end of life with lots of love. This is where Little Oldies begins.”
